A chemical skin peel is an acceleration of the skin's natural exfoliation. It is a non-evasive and progressive technique. The objective is to generate new, healthier skin as a natural consequence of the healing process.
In superficial chemical skin peels, AHA (Alpha hydroxy acid) and BHA (Beta hydroxy acid) are used, particularly glycolic acid, the smallest fruit acid molecule. In medium chemical skin peels, the most widely used agent is TCA (Trichloroacetic acid).
By using chemical skin peels you will be able to reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, smooth skin, add natural radiance, refresh skin, and reduce the appearance of pigmented spots & melasma. Results are seen through a radiant complexion (pinker skin), the fading of fine lines and the texture (the skin is very soft to the touch).
For best results, it is highly recommended that patients use the homecare regimen prescribed by our aesthetic nurse practitioner to prepare the skin and get the most out of the treatment. You should start the skin care program at least 2 weeks before the first peel.
A session lasts between 15 and 30 minutes and takes place as follows: cleaning, application of the peel, and neutralization. Some peels are performed as a series of 4 or 6 sessions, which take place over the course of several weeks.
When the peeling agent is applied, you will feel some tingling and a warm sensation.
Depending on the intensity of the peel, you may observe a sensation similar to mild sunburn, slight flaking, or desquamation for about 3 days following the treatment.
Light peels (Glycolic) can reduce age spots, rough skin and slightly dimish fine lines. Medium Peels commonly done with Tri-Chloroacetic acid (TCA) achieve similar results but can reduce acne scars and fine wrinkles.
